Finding out a pregnancy is going to result in having twins, triplets, or more, can leave parents with a wide range of feelings and questions. A group in Warrensburg offers a place where parents can share stories and advice – the Warrensburg Area Mothers of Multiples.
Founded last year by Susanna Pippel, mother of twins, and Ellengray Schroeder, also a mother of twins, the group meets monthly to offer encouragement, swap stories and share advice.
“Each meeting has a different social or educational theme,” Pippel said. “Some months we do a seasonal craft, others we meet at a local restaurant. We’ve even taken field trips to visit the Greater Kansas City Mothers of Twins Club, a much older and larger club that annually assembles panels of educators to discuss placement of multiples in school and panels of multiples of all ages to discuss what it’s like being a multiple. At every meeting, we enjoy open conversation about the trials and triumphs of parenthood and share what has and hasn’t worked for us in mothering our multiples.”
Membership in the group is $35 a year, which helps cover affiliation fees with the Missouri Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs and the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs and administration costs. Anyone is welcome to come to a meeting for free to see if it would be something they would like to join. The group is also open to parents who are expecting multiples.
The next meeting will be Tues., Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg, 206 N. College Ave.
