died at his Warrensburg home on Monday, Sept. 3. Harold was known as “June” to his family and close friends.
Harold was born on Sept 21, 1926 in Boyd, Oklahoma, the son of John Hiram and Opal (Rennick) Davis. He was the sixth child of seven in the family home. He grew up on the family ranch of a pioneer family, who had homesteaded in the Oklahoma Panhandle, also known as “No Man’s Land”. June entertained many with stories of the Depression, the Dust Bowl, the War years and tales about riding to the Anthony one room schoolhouse on horseback.
On October 16, 1949 he was united in marriage to Ida May Braidwood in Liberal, Kansas.
Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946 during WW II; in the post war occupation of Korea while the civilian Korean government was being established. His reserve unit was later called up for the Korean conflict (1950-1951). The unit participated in the retreat and evacuations from North Korea at Hungnam.
Harold was a farmer/cattleman in Crowley County, Colorado, (1950 to 1969). In 1964, he helped organize the cattlemen of the Arkansas Valley, who bought ranch acreage, located in Crowley and Lincoln Counties, creating the Horse Creek Grazing Association. Harold was the last surviving member of the original board.
In 1969, Harold and the family moved to Windsor, MO where he raised cattle & horses until retirement. In the 1970’s, working with the Soil Conservation Service Board of Johnson County, MO, he helped over see many soil conservation projects, This included the Blackwater water shed project, serving as treasurer on the board. Harold believed in preserving the land for future generations.
Harold and Ida May moved to Warrensburg, MO in 2009, enjoying suburban living.
Harold is survived by his wife Ida May of the home, three sons, Alan and wife Ann of Leeton, Mo, Keith and wife Sharon of Watkins, Colo., Tim and wife Julie, of Greencastle, PA; one daughter, Cindy Pease and husband Bob of Leeton, MO; two sisters, Lucile Myers of Liberal, KS and Betty Jantzen of Balko, OK. Four grandchildren, Sarah Davis Green and husband Daniel, of Warrensburg, MO, Tom Pease of Lenexa, KS, John Davis and wife, Amanda of Leeton, MO and Kimberly Davis of Fort Collins, CO., three great grandchildren, Garrett Green of Warrensburg and Conner and Colten Davis of Leeton.
Harold’s parents, three brothers, Merle, Johnnie and LaVerne Davis, and one sister, Delpha Dain, preceded him in death. Cremation is planned with private services.
