Joseph Edwin Walter

Joseph Edwin Walter died on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at age 79.

Joseph Edwin Walter was born Sept. 10, 1934 to Dorsey Walter and Helen (Wiley) Walter. He was raised in Sedalia, Mo., where he learned to hunt, fish, raise and ride horses, and work.

He married Janice Carl on July 3, 1953. Together they raised 3 wonderful children, Pamela, Stephen and Tamera. Joe, Jan and the children moved to Idaho, where Joe’s love for the outdoors only grew. His memories of the mountains were told to all he met.

Joe, Jan and the children moved back to Independence, Mo. where he became a District Manager for K-Mart. That job took him to Oklahoma and then back to Independence. Joe bought 20 acres in Kingsville, Mo. in 1988. A dream he had since he was a young man.

Upon the purchase of the land, Joe also purchased horses. Joe’’s love for the outdoors continued with his pride and joy, Rahim Regency WAF. Reggie is a registered Arabian descended from the great horses of the Arabian nomads.

Joe retired from K-Mart and started his own business, Astri Tech Auto Supply, in 1990. He cultivated friendships and business associates for 24 years, until he was unable to continue this past year.

Joseph is survived by his wife Janice, daughters Pamela Hunt and Tamera Mortenson and husband David, son Stephen and wife Cindy, brother Wiley and wife Helen, and sister Ardis Curtiss, along with 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Dorsey and Helen Walter, his parent-in-laws Helen Light Carl and Wm. H. Carl, brother-in-laws Don Carl and Harold Curtiss and a great granddaughter, Savannah McCulloch.
