Tigers close season in first round of districts

By JASON STRICKLAND (NEVADA, Mo.) – The Warrensburg Tigers’ football season ended with a record of 0-10 as it lost 54-29 at Nevada Thursday night.

No. 1 seed Nevada advances to the second round of the Class 4 District 7 playoff bracket, and will play the winner of Friday’s four-five matchup between Harrisonville (7-2) and Grandview (3-6).

Warrensburg cut the lead to 21-14 after a 48-yard touchdown pass from Brett Marr to Anthony Briscoe with 2:49 to go in the first half, but it was all Nevada after that.

Nevada made it 48-14 with 11 seconds remaining in the third quarter by scoring the next four touchdowns of the game. The scores were an 11-yard run by Bradey Denney, a 48-yard run by Dalton Hendren, a 68-yard run by Taylor Manes and a 25-yard pass from Alex Payne to Nathan Colopy.

The remaining two touchdowns for Warrensburg were a 64-yard run by Marr and a 10-yard pass from Marr to Nick Crider. The remaining score for Nevada was a 6-yard run by Chance Mays with 4:37 left in the game.

Nevada nearly had three running backs gain more than 100 yards. Hendren had 155 yards off 18 carries, Denney had 126 yards off 13 carries and Manes had 96 yards off six carries.

Marr scored a career-high three touchdowns, but threw a career-high three interceptions, as well. Briscoe was his favorite target, as he pulled in eight passes for more than 100 yards.

The 29 points was a season high for Warrensburg, but the 54 points was a season-high for points allowed. It was the third time Nevada has scored 54 points this season.
