Verdie Ray Allen, 71, of Knob Noster, Missouri, died Thursday, Aug. 2, in Kansas City, Missouri.Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Brother Charles Brant officiating. Interment followed the service at Hickory Point Cemetery in Green Ridge.
Pallbearers were Steve Elwell, Stevie Elwell, Lance Elwell, Lane Elwell, Kyle Judd, and Roger Werneke. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Elwell, Trenton Werneke, Travis Elwell, Morgan Elwell, Garrett Judd and Josh Meyer.
Family received friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at the funeral home.
Verdie was born on Nov. 26, 1946, in Knob Noster, Missouri, to Joe Jefferson Allen and Edna Mae (Huffman) Allen. He married Mary Ellen (Morgan) McAllister on Feb. 10, 1981, in Warrensburg. Verdie was a mechanic who loved fixing all types of machinery. He also enjoyed mowing lawns, eating ice cream and spending time with his family.
Verdie is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary, of the home; daughter, Tina Werneke, her husband Roger and their son, Trenton; daughter, JoEllen Elwell and her husband Steve; their two sons, Steve and his wife Sandra and their two children; Stevie and Travis and Lance Elwell and his wife, Shane and their four children, Josh, Lane, Ivy and Morgan; and one daughter, Mary Jo Judd and her husband, Kyle and their two children, Kylie and Garrett; sisters, Patricia Hontz and her husband, Eddie of La Monte, Missouri; Mary Howe and her husband, Kenneth of Sedalia, Missouri; and Minnie Clifton and her husband, Isaac of Ohio; brothers, John Allen of Knob Noster; Donald Allen and wife Mona of Sedalia, Missouri; and Larry Lee Allen and wife Dorothy of Grandview, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
Verdie was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Edna (Huffman) Allen; brother, Jimmie Dale Allen; sister, Beulah Green; and two uncles, Robert Allen and Glen Dale Allen.
