(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) — Central Missouri redshirt freshman defensive end Josh Powell and senior placekicker Zach Gebhardt have been named MIAA Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for their performances in UCM’s 51-7 homecoming win over Northeastern State on Saturday afternoon.
Powell finished the game with six tackles and three sacks totaling 24 yards in losses. His three sacks are tied for the sixth most in a single game in school history. He helped lead the Mule defense, which held the RiverHawks to just 215 yards of total offense including 39 yards rushing on 35 attempts. As a unit, the Mules registered 14 tackles for loss and seven sacks. The seven total sacks are tied for the fourth most in a game in UCM history.
Gebhardt was 3 for 3 in field goal attempts and 6 of 6 on extra point attempts for 15 points in the win. His 15 points scored are tied for the fifth most by a kicker in a single game in school history. He made field goals of 33, 30 and 34 yards. He also kicked off 10 times with a 62.4 yard average and five touchbacks. Only once did NSU start past their own 25-yard line after a Gebhardt kickoff.
This is the first player of the week award for both players.
The Mules are back in action this Saturday at Nebraska-Kearney. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. at Cope Stadium at Foster Field in Kearney, Neb.
