St. Luke’s Hospital receives $5 million endowment

(CHESTERFIELD, Mo., AP) — St. Luke’s Hospital, an independent hospital based in Chesterfield, has received the largest endowment gift in its history.

The hospital announced Wednesday the gift from Enterprise Holdings founder Jack Taylor; his daughter, Jo Ann Taylor Kindle, and the Crawford Taylor Foundation.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/We2g9k) the $5 million gift is more than the total charitable giving it received in fiscal year 2013, when it was given $3.3 million.

The money was donated to the Gary Olson Endowment Fund, which honors the hospital’s longtime CEO, who plans to retire next year.

The fund will be used to provide financial assistance for patients, technology improvements and to recruit staff and physicians.
