Eugene F. Neer, 84 of Warrensburg, Mo., formerly of Knob Noster, died Thursday, Sept. 25, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg with Pastor Wayne Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Eugene Frederick Neer was born March 26, 1930, in Liberal, Kan., the son of Willard and Gerald Bell (Dykes) Neer. He was united in marriage to Velda R. Gustason on Dec. 26, 1948, in Clayton, N.M. He owned and operated Neer Lumber Co. in Liberal during the 1950s and early 1960s. The couple moved to a farm near Knob Noster in 1962. He moved to Warrensburg in later years. Eugene was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Mechanics was his hobby.
Survivors include his son, Gary Neer and wife, Shirley, of Knob Noster; two daughters, Judy Hicks and husband, Wayne, of Hudson, Fla.; and Rita Carter and husband, Robert, of Freeman, Mo.; three sisters, Anna Belle Sellers and husband, Jim, of Sacramento, Calif.; Sally Woods of Tennessee; and Linda Mallory and husband, Frank, of Arkansas; four grandchildren, Amy Madison and husband, James, of Arizona; Jeff Neer and wife, Kim, of Knob Noster; Jennifer Gould and husband, Franco, of Washington, D.C.; and Ryan Hicks and wife, Lauren, of Mansfield, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Hicks, Levi Hicks, Alexis Madison, Trevor Ellis and Michala Ellis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velda, on Nov. 22, 2007, and his brother, Charles Neer.
