Calvin Dale Brown, 85, of Warrensburg, Missouri, formerly of Chilhowee, died Saturday, July 18, at the Warrensburg Veterans Home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 23, at the Warrensburg Veterans Home with the Rev. Sam Shockley officiating. Interment will follow in Carpenter Cemetery, west of Chilhowee with full military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign War, Post 2513; American Legion, Post 131; and Whiteman Air Force Base Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the Veterans home.
Calvin was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Chilhowee, the son of Jesse and Gladys (Barnes) Brown. He was raised on a farm near Chilhowee and graduated from Chilhowee High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in France. Calvin was united in marriage to Pauline Simmons on Dec. 22, 1956, in Greenville, Mississippi. Following his discharge from active duty, the couple lived in Harrisonville. They owned and operated Hilltop Store west of Chilhowee for a number of years while also living there. Calvin and Pauline eventually purchased a farm across the road from the station. Upon retiring from farming in 2003, the couple moved to Warrensburg. He was a member of American Legion, Post 131. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working on cars. Calvin was also a member of Graceway Church in Kansas City.
Survivors include a son, Rodger Brown, and wife, Kelly, of Denver; stepdaughter, Jan Hambright, and husband, Gary, of Scottsdale, Arizona; stepson, John Shobe, and wife, Jennifer, of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, Andrea Stolze, Ashley Bachtell, Matthew Brown, Rosie Shobe and Ruth Shobe; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; brother, Lloyd Brown, and two sisters, Leota Bartles and Irene Chamberlin.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Crossroads Hospice or the Warrensburg Veterans Home.
