Run for Freedom

The 13th annual Run for Freedom 5K, 10K and Poker Walk is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 26 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.
The West Central Missouri Veterans Assistance League will host this USATF certified event that offers professional timing services, performance race shirts, medals for runners in 12 different age categories, cash prizes for overall winners, door prizes and refreshments. The first 50 entrants will be entered in a drawing to win $100 cash.
This year’s proceeds will go into a fund to purchase a new handicapped-accessible kneeling bus that will allow staff to transport veterans from the home to a variety of outings.
Two hundred veterans representing service in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Bosnia and peacetime operations live at the home. Some of the veterans will assist with this year’s awards ceremony and help with the poker walk tables.
Registration is $20 for the 5K, $25 for the 10K, and $15 for the Poker Walk. To receive a T-shirt, participants must be registered by Sept. 17. Online registration is available at 2015valrun.eventbrite.com or entry forms may be picked up at the Missouri Veterans Home.
