Shirley Doehla Cleveland

Shirley Doehla Cleveland, 61, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, at her home.

Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 6, at Williams Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Harvest Fellowship Church in Warrensburg and officiated by Pastor Shawn Benson. There will be a private family interment at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.

Shirley was born March 7, 1954, in Jefferson City, Missouri, to Gilbert and Tena (Strobel) Doehla. She grew up on a farm outside of Concordia, Missouri, and graduated from Concordia High School in 1972. She went on to attend Central Missouri State University earning a Bachelor of Science in medical technology degree in 1976. She married Greg Cleveland on Aug. 28, 1976, and worked for two years in the lab at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City while he completed his degree in dentistry. In 1978, they moved to Warrensburg where she worked for 10 years managing the lab of a Warrensburg family medical practice. She also helped to establish her husband’s dental practice doing the bookkeeping and accounting.

Shirley had an active lifestyle. She spent much time visiting nursing homes, working with a local Meals on Wheels program and serving on both church and business advisory boards. She was an active member of Harvest Fellowship church for 35 years, serving in many capacities within the church including children’s church, decorating, counseling and prayer ministries.

Shirley was a creative and multi-talented woman. From projects with her compound mitre saw to watercolor painting to home decorating, she quickly mastered any project with a pension for excellence. She enjoyed intricate sewing projects making decor for her church and home. She had a love and compassion for others and that was reflected in her counseling and prayer ministries. Her compassion extended even to rescuing stray pets and orphaned wildlife. She had a lifelong relationship with the Lord and the love of God that showed through her was a great influenced on many people.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Greg; a daughter, Ashley Howard, and husband, Zac, of Lee’s Summit; a son, Ross Cleveland, and wife, Taylor, of Russelville, Missouri; granddaughter, Harper Howard; grandson, Weston Howard; mother, Tena Doehla, of Concordia, Missouri; and brother, Jim (Myra) Doehla, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri. She is preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Doehla.
