John David Summitt, 80, of Holden, Missouri, died Dec. 13, at Kindred Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home with interment at Concord Cemetery in Bates City, Missouri.

John was born Sept. 19, 1935, in Higginsville, Missouri, the son of David A. Summitt and Reecie Marie (Johnson) Summitt. John married Ramona Sue Vance on May 28, 1955, in Warrensburg, Missouri. He worked at the GM Fairfax Assembly Plant and retired in 1996 and was a member of the UAW Local 31. John was an avid collector of knives, watches, coins and many other collectables.

Surviving his passing are two sons, John David Summitt Jr., of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; and Steven Curtis Summitt, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; three daughters, Kathy Paulette Manning, of Florida; Tammy Sue Vanbibber, of Cameron, Missouri; and Mayme Michelle Brooks, of LaMonte, Missouri; three brothers, Jack Summitt, of Kansas City, Missouri; Frank Summitt, of Warrensburg; Clyde “Jim” Summitt, of Warrensburg; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

John was preceeded in death by his wife, Ramona; two brothers, Daniel and Robert; and one sister, Ludy Mae Barton.
