Sue Reese

Alma Sue Alley was born Jan. 27, 1926, in Blackwater, Missouri, the daughter of Cread Coral and Naomi (Baker) Alley. She graduated from Blackwater High School in 1943.

She married Trevor David Reese on May 15, 1948, at Peninsula Baptist Church in a double ceremony with her sister, Sarah and Paul Stober. Trevor and Sue were married for 67 years. Sue loved to spend her time serving others and being with her family. Family was one of the most important aspects of Sue’s life. She loved to cook and cooking with her grandchildren was a treasured time. Her specialties were making bread and Nacadoches cake. Gardening was another passion of Sue’s. She loved to grow flowers because flowers were to share, and she taught her children the fine tradition of May Baskets. She loved serving at church, and she attended First Baptist Church of Warrensburg for more than 50 years. Sue served with the Women’s Missionary Union teaching English as a second language, taught Sunday School to middle schoolers, and served on numerous committees. She loved meeting people from other cultures, tasting their foods, and sharing her home and food with them. With a keen interest in numbers, she was a bookkeeper and enjoyed memory games like mahjong, Sudoku, and crypto quotes from the Daily Star Journal.

Sue is survived by her husband, Trevor; two sons, Trevor Reese Jr., of St. Louis, Missouri; Mark Reese and wife, Tina, of Anthem, Arizona; a daughter, Susan Oxley, and husband, Doyle, of Centerview, Missouri; six grandchildren, Erin Chenoweth and husband, Matthew, of St. Louis; Ashley Powell and husband, Kevin, of St. Louis; Jonie Oxley and R. Elias Oxley, of Centerview; Laura Reese and Kimberly Reese, of Anthem; one great-grandson, James Alley Chenoweth, of St. Louis; and two sisters, Sarah Stober, of Sweet Springs, Missouri; and Joanne Beebe, of Independence, Missouri.
