Helen B. Smiley, 88, of Knob Noster, Missouri, died Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Helen was born Aug. 15, 1927, to Hugh M. and Ruth (Swift) Price in La Monte, Missouri.
She and Kenneth Denton Smiley were united in marriage on April 6, 1946, in Olathe, Kansas. He preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 2010.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Tresenriter, and husband, Robert, of Oak Grove, Missouri; and Nanette Norman, of Columbia, Missouri; two grandchildren, Kevin Tresenriter, and wife, Julie, of Liberty, Missouri; and Elizabeth Peoples and husband, Mike, of Columbia; five great-grandchildren, Marcus Tresenriter, Marina Tresenriter, Macey Tresenriter, Douglas Peoples and Jordyn Peoples; a sister, Elaine Russell, and husband, Owen, of Sedalia, Missouri; two cousins, Sally Vogler, and husband, Melvin, of Knob Noster; and David Price and wife, Linda, of Warsaw, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kenneth and Helen owned Smiley Service Station in Knob Noster for 34 years, a job which Helen loved. After retiring, they enjoyed camping and traveling.
Helen was active for 67 years at the First Christian Church in Knob Noster and always took an active part in what she believed needed to be done. Her activities included beginning Sunday School teacher, playing the piano, worship committee, and singing in the choir.
Helen was active in water aerobics, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Garden Club, and American Legion extension. She was known for her cooking and baking skills and being a best friend to all who knew her.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the First Christian Church of Knob Noster with Pastor Brandon Mildren officiating. Interment will follow in La Monte Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church of Knob Noster or the Show-Me Christian Youth Home in La Monte and can be left in care of Moore Funeral Home, 812 S. Main, La Monte, MO.
