Dear Editor,
In 2014, the Warrensburg City Council unanimously passed a resolution recognizing the importance of safe pedestrian and walking infrastructures within the community. The document concluded with the following commitments:
1) The City of Warrensburg shall endeavor to facilitate the integration of bicycling and walking into daily life, providing for both transportation and recreation that are safe, sustainable and convenient for persons of all ages and abilities.
2) All public development and transportation projects in Warrensburg will be designed and constructed to serve everyone wherever possible, including pedestrians, cyclists, the disabled, transit riders and motorists, by providing safe, efficient and sustainable transportation of people, goods and services to and from where they live, work, worship, shop, play, learn and seek medical care.
One doesn’t have to look far to see that Warrensburg has main arteries with inconsistent sidewalks, roadway shoulders, and other impediments to non-motorized transport. Unfortunately there are only so many resources to attend to the needs of these and other municipal projects. So it is incumbent upon us, residents and tax-payers of Warrensburg, to reaffirm how important it is that the city move progressively forward in the development of safe walking and cycling routes throughout our community.
Johnson County Citizens for Environmental Action encourages all community stakeholders to present your transportation observations and requests to the City Council regularly and persistently. By doing this you help make Warrensburg a model city of which we can all be proud.
