Josephine Ann (Cole) Sexton died Friday, May 6.
Visitation with family will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 13, with a funeral service following at 10 a.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden, Missouri. Burial will follow at the Kingsville Cemetery.
Josephine was born in Raytown, Missouri, on July 25, 1939, the oldest of three children born to Joseph and Julia (Funkhouser) Cole. She was raised in the Independence/Blue Springs area, graduating from Blue Springs High School in 1957.
She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Sexton on Feb. 5 1960. They were married until Feb. 5, 2009, when Bob died on their 49th anniversary.
After their marriage, Josephine and Bob lived for a time in the Independence/Blue Springs area. In 1967 they moved to Grain Valley, living there for nine years and then moving on to Kingsville in 1976 where they stayed.
Josephine was a member of the Grace Pentecostal Church in Blue Springs for more than 40 years. Her parents were founding members of that church. In later years she joined Deaf Liberty Baptist Church, and then after Bob’s passing she began going to Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church in Kingsville, a branch of the original Pentecostal Church from Blue Springs.
Josephine drove a school bus for Kingsville and Holden districts, retiring after 32 years.
She is survived by her six children, Leca and Doug Weber, of El Dorado, Kansas; Kevin and Angela Sexton, of Carrollton, Missouri; Lori Hocker, of Harrisonville, Missouri; Linda and Tim Clark, of Greenwood, Missouri; Lynette and Mike Sticht, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and Kyle Sexton, of Holden; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Josephine is also survived by her brother, Tom Cole, of Kansas City, Missouri; and her sister, Helen “Weezie” Morgan, of Warrensburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; and infant grandson, Cory Hocker.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be left with the family or funeral director for a donation to be made in her name to the American Heart Association.
