Herman F. Peery, 90, of Knob Noster, Missouri, died Friday, May 20, at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, at the Knob Noster Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ with Elder Michael Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Knob Noster Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Robert Rainey, Eugene Bentley, Alan and Rodney Norman, Bryant Massengale and Timothy Lewis. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.

Herman was born on May 24, 1925, in Abingdon, Illinois, the son of William and May Peery.

Herman and Eula Mae Miles were united in marriage on May 6, 1947, in Knob Noster. She preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 2010.

Herman graduated from Knob Noster High School. He was a World War II veteran. He served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Purple Heart recipient.

Herman was a farmer and worked for the Perminer Door Factory in Sedalia for three years.

Herman was a member of the Knob Noster Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ and the Knob Noster VFW. He loved pheasant hunting.

Herman is survived by one son, Richard Dennis Peery, and wife, Jill, of Knob Noster; a sister, Alta Hackler, of Knob Noster; four grandchildren, Cory Peery and wife, Missy, of Pelion, South Carolina; Nichole Averbeck, of Knob Noster; and Cortney and Curtis Peery, of Kansas City, Missouri; three step-grandchildren, Holly Koncilia, of Blue Springs, Missouri; Joe Koncilia, of Grain Valley, Missouri; and Christopher Heimsoth, of Knob Noster; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Hayes, on June 17, 2001; three brothers and two sisters.
