John Robert Gray

John Robert Gray, 93, of Blue Springs, formerly of Warrensburg, died Friday, May 20, at St. Mary’s Manor in Blue Springs.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, at the Community of Christ Church, 3539 S. Route 7 in Blue Springs, with Elder Wendy Scafe officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

John was born Sept. 9, 1922, in Urich, Missouri, the son of Robert Edward and Mabel (Kepner) Gray.

He and Marian Hutchinson were married on Oct. 11, 1945, in Shawnee Mound, Missouri. She preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 2014.

John was a graduate of Leeton High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II, and he received three bronze stars for his service.

John worked for United Telephone Company for 38 years as a lineman and a PBX installer, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the Community of Christ Church of Warrensburg and later the Community of Christ Church of Blue Springs. He served as commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America, and he was a member of the Warrensburg VFW.

John is survived by son Jay Gray and Diana Harris, of Blue Springs; son Robert Gray and wife, Carol, of Vernon, Arizona; a daughter, Marilyn Davis, and husband, Ted, of Bonne Terre, Missouri; a sister, Mabel Josephine Clear, of Belton, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Jayson Gray, Heather Winter, Kalee Schooley, Matthew Davis, Ryan Gray, Katie Spink and Jessie Standridge; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Warnasch, and a brother, Hiram Willard Gray.
