Two arrested for arson in last week’s fatal fire in Sedalia

(SEDALIA, Mo., AP) — Two people have been charged with a felony in a fatal fire in Sedalia.

The Sedalia Democrat (http://bit.ly/29iT1k0 ) reports that 21-year-old Aran Tyler Cantrell and 23-year-old Cody Harvey were charged Thursday with first-degree arson. They are jailed on $250,000 bond. No attorneys are listed for them in online court records.

Firefighters found 30-year-old Matthew Eldenburg in a burning home last week, and he was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Sedalia police Sgt. Kelley Casto says Cantrell told police he doused Eldenburg with gasoline while he was unconscious. Cantrell told police Harvey tried to light Eldenburg on fire, but Harvey says he wasn’t involved.

Castro says the investigation is ongoing and that police are waiting on pathology and toxicology test results to determine whether there will be additional charges.
