
Curtis Rider
Curtis Dean Rider, 90, of Mayview, Missouri, died Sunday, Oct. 16, at Centerpoint Hospital in Independence.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Oct. 20, at Mt. Tabor Methodist Church in Odessa, Missouri with The Reverend Darryl Rider officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be Larry Emerson, Larry Nutt, Larry McLallen, Kenny Rider, Mike Nutt, and Matt Harshman. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warriors Project or Disabled American Veterans and can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.
Curtis was born July 14, 1926 in Columbus, Missouri, the son of Carl and Lela (Specker) Rider.
On May 27, 1949 in Warrensburg, he and Anna Lee Michael were united in marriage. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2013.
In March of 1944, Curtis went into the US Navy and served in World War II. He was discharged in 1947. In December of 1950, he was recalled by the Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged again in March of 1952.
He moved to Odessa, MO and bought a farm. In the summer of 1963 he went to work for I.T.T. Kellog laying cable for missiles in Missouri. He later went to work for Allis Chalmers combine plant in Independence. In September of 1967, he moved to Oregon before moving back during the Christmas of 1972. He went back to work for Allis Chalmers and retired in December of 1986.
Curtis is survived by three daughters, Beverley Ann Nutt and husband, Larry, of Edwards, Missouri, Rebecca Dean Emerson and husband, Larry, of Mayview, and Carolyn Sue McLallen and husband, Larry, all of Edwards; two brothers, George Rider and wife, Irma, of Odessa, and Bob Rider and wife, Dela, of Townsend, Montana; and 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, one great-grandson, Jonathon Runyon, two brothers, Tom and Paul Rider, and two sisters, Betty Skeens and Carlene Diamond.
