Grace “Orene” Bass, 85, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Saturday, Sept. 16, at Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg with Rev. Joel Kurz of Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating.
Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Orene was born Jan. 5, 1932, on a farm north of Warrensburg, daughter of Ora Earl “Chinnie” Brookshier and Grace Delilah (Fox) Brookshier. She graduated Valdictorian of Centerview High School Class of 1950. She was united in marriage to William Gwyn “Bill” Bass on Nov. 4, 1950, in Warrensburg. From 1950 to 1958, Orene was employed at People’s National Bank in Warrensburg. The couple moved to Sedalia, Missouri, for a time, prior to moving to Centerview, Missouri, in 1964. During this time, she owned and operated Centerview Market. The couple sold the store and moved to a farm near Centerview and Orene returned to the bank until retiring in 1976. They moved to Warrensburg in 1989. Orene was a member of Centerview Methodist Church, and later, First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg. She was very active in 4-H and PTO throughout the years. She enjoyed two-step dancing, card playing, bingo, dominos and also, family softball in years past.
Survivors include her two daughters, Carol Hays and husband, Terry of Houston, Texas and Debbie Horn and husband, Donnie of Fulton, Missouri; Sister, Beverly Sullins and husband, Glenn of Chilhowee, Missouri; six grandchildren, Nichole Hays and Megan Hays, both of Houston, Texas; Jessica Hays of Kansas City, Missouri; Brent Hays of Austin, Texas; David Horn and wife, Keri of Clark, Missouri; and Dustin Horn and wife, Dara of Fulton, Missouri; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill on May 30, 1990.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time, Friday at the funeral home.
