James Chester “JC” Myers, age 88, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died on Saturday, Jan. 13.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Masonic Corinthian Lodge 265 and can be left in care of the funeral home.
A Masonic service for JC will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, immediately followed by the funeral service, at Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home with Pastor Sid Tiller officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris Myers, Bob Myers, Jarrod Reynolds, Scott Myers, Eric Kuhn and Charlie Lund. Honorary pallbearers will be Mitchell Myers, Cody Myers, Tyler Myers, Jake Myers, Jacob (Reynolds) Need, Gerald Kimbley and Mike Looney. Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.
JC was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Horton, Kansas, the son of Chester Jerry and Nora (Aldridge Taylor) Myers. On Aug. 10, 1947, he was united in marriage to Jeannine Kaye Gellatly in Hotchkiss, Colorado. She preceded him in death in 2013. They lived in Hotchkiss, Crested Butte, and Gunnison, Colorado, and several towns in Missouri before settling in Warrensburg.
JC graduated from Holton High School in Holton, Kansas, in the class of 1946. He owned and operated J.C. Myers Construction Co. Inc. until his retirement, but kept track of the business daily. He was a member of QB’s, Warrensburg Elks Lodge 673, Masonic Corinthian Lodge 264 A.F. and A.M., Scottish Rite and York Rite of Kansas City, Missouri, Ararat Shrine of Kansas City, and the Order of the Eastern Star 3 in Warrensburg.
JC enjoyed traveling, dancing with his wife, flying, watching NASCAR and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his two sons, Richard Myers and partner Becki Jenkins, and Don Myers and wife Lorrie, all of Warrensburg; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
JC was preceded in death by his wife, his daughter, Pamela Jean Myers, his parents, his two brothers John and Steve Taylor and his sister Betty Hoffsett.
