Herbert Brockhaus, 95, of Kingsville, Missouri, died Feb. 25, at Holden Manor Care Center.
Visitation was 9-10:45 a.m. on March 1, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Holden, Missouri. Burial was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors Holden VFW and the American Legion Post 90.
He was born Sept. 14, 1922 in Holden, Missouri, to George & Mary (Lohe) Brockhaus. He followed the love of his life, Thelma L. Fisher, to Idaho and they married on Nov. 4, 1941.
He joined the Merchant Marines and proudly served from 1942-1946. Herb and Thelma were married 69 and a half years and made their home in Kingsville, Missouri.
Herb was a pillar in his community, playing the part as Secret Santa, who delivered oranges and nuts to many residents for many years. Many will remember that he was always willing to give a helping hand day or night. Over the years, he owned dump trucks, Greg & Brockhaus Tire, in Warrensburg, and later hauled milk for area dairy farmers. He worked 25 years for the Holden Water Department and O & M Enterprises and retired from there in 2010.
Herb was an active member of Knights of Columbus and the VFW. He could always be counted upon to help out his neighbors and to advocate wisely for his community. Herb was highly respected and loved by many, and his words of wisdom will certainly be missed. His love for his family is unmatched.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Thelma, his only daughter, Connie Shore, five brothers and five Sister. Herbert is survived by his son, Curt (Phyllis) Brockhaus of Holden and son-in- law, Charles “Butch” Shore, along with seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, seven great-great -grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions can be made to Salvation Army or the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Building fund. Arrangements entrusted to Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home.
