Central wins second straight MIAA Commissioner’s Cup

Central Missouri Athletics recently won the MIAA Commissioner’s Cup for the second year in a row, according to a press release.

The Commissioner’s Cup is an all-sports award presented at the end of each academic year to the league’s top performing school in conference play based on a point system.

“To win this trophy in back-to-back years is a tremendous honor that represents our entire department from our coaches and administration, down to our student-athletes,” said UCM Athletic Director Jerry Hughes. “I am incredibly proud of what our staff and student-athletes accomplish on the field, in the classroom and as role models in the community.”

Points are awarded per sport based on the number of schools that participate, and the institution’s grand total is divided by the athletic programs it sponsors, giving an overall average finish for the school.

UCM got 193.5 points across 17 sports for an average of 11.4, including first place regular season finishes in women’s soccer and women’s basketball.

UCM also had top three finishes in football, men’s cross country, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, women’s bowling, baseball, softball and mens golf, according to the release.

The MIAA Commissioner’s Cup was presented to UCM at the MIAA awards ceremony June 4 at the Truman Forum Auditorium located in the Plaza Branch of the Kansas City Public Library.

“The MIAA is one of the most competitive conferences in the NCAA. This year, 12 different conference schools won or tied for the regular season or conference tournament championship in at least one of the MIAA’s 20 sports,” said MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy.
