The MIAA announced the winners of their Academic Excellence and Scholar Athlete Awards for student-athletes in spring sport programs, according to a press release.
Four student-athletes earned the Academic Excellence Award and 14 were named MIAA Scholar-Athletes.
UCM’s Academic Excellence Award recipients were Ian Barnes, men’s golf; Mason Janvrin, baseball; Elizabeth Leath, women’s golf; and Kymmalett Ross, women’s track and field.
UCM’s Scholar Athlete Award recipients were John Bonaobra, men’s golf; Hailey Crabtree, Emily King and Alexis Koop, softball; Laia Gonzalez, Hannah VanBuskirk and Emily Thole, women’s track and field; Jan Jansky, Jacob Randle and Jacob Weber, men’s track and field; Mason Janvrin and Collin Nevil, baseball; and Elizabeth Leath and Olivia Sobaski, women’s golf.
To earn the MIAA Academic Excellence Award, student-athletes need a 4.0 grade point average. To earn the Scholar Athlete Award, student-athletes need a 3.50 grade point average. Both awards require at least two terms of attendance. If a student is competing in an MIAA championship sport, they must earn All-MIAA honors.
Awards for 2017-2018 freshmen and newcomers and the MIAA academic honor roll recipients are scheduled to be released next week.
