William Wallace Bushmeyer, Jr., 86, of Warrensburg, died Sept. 22, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

The funeral service were held 1 p.m. Sept. 27, at First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg with Pastor Louie Lowe officiating. Full military honors will be conducted during the funeral service, and the interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.

Family received friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Sept. 26, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.

William (Bill) was born April 6, 1932, in Steubenville, Ohio, to William Wallace Bushmeyer, Sr. and Gertrude Marie (Dammkoehler) Bushmeyer.

On Jan. 30, 1952, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and he served for nearly four years before he was honorably discharged on Jan. 12, 1956. During his time in the service, he married Wilma Lynn Dale on Sept. 14, 1953, in Neosho, Missouri.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Wilma, of the home; five children, Diana Lynn Bushmeyer (Darin Nine), of Ocklawaha, Florida, Dana Louise Wagner (Paul), of Ghent, New Tork, Denise Lorraine Mitchell (Timothy), of Carrollton, Texas, Damon Lea East (Hunter), of Fraser, Colorado, and William Wallace Bushmeyer III (Amy), of Warrensburg; eight grandchildren, Drew Wagner, Auri East, Morgan Mitchell, Zoey Wagner, Melissa Mitchell, Mason Mitchell, Grace Bushmeyer and Laine Bushmeyer. His sister, Zoe Stafford of Dallas, Texas, along with many extended family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents William Wallace Bushmeyer, Sr. and Gertrude Marie Bushmeyer, sister Shirley French and grandson Parker East.

Bill graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education. He began his teaching career in high school agriculture in the towns of Brunswick and Maryville, Missouri.  Bill continued his education earning a Masters and PhD. The family moved to Warrensburg in 1969 where he embarked on his 38 year teaching career in Agricultural Education at CMSU.  His students lovingly referred to him as “Doc”.

Bill was a man of deep faith and love of family.  He was a very compassionate man extremely devoted to his wife and family.  Bill had the amazing ability to make everyone feel special.  His faith and belief in God was apparent to all who knew him. He loved his church and the Aldersgate Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church, Warrensburg.

Bill’s other passion was that of farming. He loved spending time on his tractor baling hay and tending his Hereford cattle. He also took great joy in fishing.
