Arthur L. “Art” Belanger Sr., 84, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Sunday, Oct. 28, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.
Art was born Jan. 30, 1934, in Fall River, Massachusetts, the son of Leo G. and Delia (St. Pierre) Belanger. He graduated from St. Ann’s Catholic School in Fall River. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. Art was united in marriage to Sherlene A. Keele on Aug. 18, 1956, in Sedalia, Missouri. Art’s time in the USAF brought the couple to Whiteman AFB, and they resided in Warrensburg for the majority of their lives. Art was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include five children, Debra (Matt) Maxon, of Warrensburg; Jean Byers, of Warrensburg; Steve (Sharon) Belanger, of Holden, Missouri; Joyce (Dan) Deevers, of Warrensburg; and Sherry (Jason) Potts, of Odessa, Missouri; brother, Rene (Ilene) Belanger, of Westport, Massachusetts; four sisters, Rita Lachepelle, of Fall River; Marie Berube, of North Dartmouth, Massachusetts; Cecile Teabalt, of Westport, Massachusetts; and Bertha Baillargeon, of Fall River; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Art was preceded in death by his wife, Sherlene; daughter, Charlotte Belanger; son, Arthur Belanger Jr.; sister, Doris Roy; brother, Henry Belanger; and son-in-law, Jack Byers.
Memorial Mass was Friday, Nov. 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warrensburg with Fr. Joe Bathke, C. PP S., officiating. A private interment at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens followed at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the church.
