James Emery Penrose, 87, of Independence, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 1 at Kansas City Hospice House.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home in Holden, Mo. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery, Holden.
He was born April 12, 1926, in Centerview, Mo., a son of Arthur and Bessie (Hughes) Penrose. He graduated from Holden High School in 1944 and attended UCM in Warrensburg a short time. Jim was a Navy veteran of World War II. He married Roberta P. Bradbury on Dec. 22, 1945 in Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Penrose had lived in the Odessa and Holden communities most of his life and moved to Independence eight years ago. He was a self-employed welder and a member of the Gudgell Congregation of the Community of Christ in Independence.
He leaves his wife, Roberta, of the home; one son, Ronald James Penrose, of Prairie Village, Kan.; one daughter, Norma Genese Larson, of Sarasota, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jason Moore, Bryan Moore and Jeffrey Penrose; and five great-grandchildren, Max Penrose, Lucy Penrose, Kevaeh Moore, Reese Moore and Quinn Moore. A brother, John Arthur Penrose, preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Kansas City Hospice.
