Alan Dexter Sweeney

Alan Dexter Sweeney, 67, of Holden, Mo., died Friday, March 28, at home.

Following cremation there will be a committal service with military honors at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo.

He was born April 14, 1946, in Whitefield, N.H., the son of Edward and Beulah (Forbes) Sweeney.

Sweeney was a veteran of the Vietnam war and received a Purple Heart in that conflict.  Following military service, he worked as a carpenter in Goosecreek, S.C. He married Dianne Stewart on May 15, 2012. He was a member of American Legion Post 1006 in Goosecreek. He had lived in Holden for a year.

Surviving are his wife, Dianne, of the home; one son, Scott Sweeney, of Goosecreek; a step-daughter, Trina Scoda, of Kingsville, Mo.; a brother, Steve Sweeney; and two sisters, Alberta Parsons, and Jean Sweeney, all in New Hampshire; and nine grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home in Holden.
