Betty Jean Wangler

Betty Jean (Newman) Wangler, 56, of Garden City, Missouri, died Saturday, Feb. 28, at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Betty was born June 27, 1958, in Warrensburg, Missouri, the daughter of Ira Lee Newman and Betty Lou (Saling) Newman. She was raised in Blairstown and graduated from Sherwood High School in Creighton. She attended the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Betty was united in marriage to William V. Wangler on July 17, 1981, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The couple resided in Colorado Springs for a brief time. Upon her husband Bill’’s passing, Betty returned to Missouri. She had resided in Garden City for the past several years. She enjoyed crocheting, horses and her flower and vegetable gardens.

Survivors include three children, William Wangler; Miriam Hardee and husband, Jacob; and Elbert Newman, all of Garden City; sister, Glenda “Kay” Dill, of Garden City; two brothers, Delbert Lee Newman and Carlene, of Sedalia, Missouri; and Elbert D. Newman and wife, Hyonja, of Junction City; three grandchildren, Alyssa Wangler, Alayna Wangler and Oswynn Hardee; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Bill; and brother, Bobby Ray Newman.

Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden with Pastor George Geesey officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel.

There will be a private interment in Pisgah Cemetery, north of Chilhowee, at a later date.

I remember all the times she made me laugh and all the things she taught me. When she passed I felt like a part of me went with her. I will never forget her and I hope she never forgets me.
