(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Black Box Theatre is back at the University of Central Missouri.

The UCM Department of Theatre and Dance will present its Studio Theatre one-act plays at 7:30 p.m. March 11-13 in the Black Box Theatre, located on the first floor of Nickerson Hall.

The one-acts are performed, directed and designed by UCM students. The plays being presented are “Sure Thing” by David Ives; “Prague Summer” by Rich Orloff; and “Duck Variations” by David Mamet, according to a news release.

Tickets are $1 and are only available at the door. Due to the size of the space and limited seating, arriving at least 30 minutes in advance is recommended. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Some material may not be suitable for children under the age of 5 will not be admitted to the show.

In “Sure Thing” by David Ives, a man, played by Ben Whitcomb, and a woman, played by Sarah Bronson, meet in a crowded café and an off-stage bell interrupts their conversation full of faux pas and gaffes that eventually lead to them falling in love. Kalyssa Bates directs this contemporary comedy with technical direction by Mark Jacobsen.

In “Prague Summer” by Rich Orloff, two friends Xavier and Ladislav, played by David LeVota and Bryson Kenworthy, meet up after several years. This takes place in the Czech Republic after the Cold War. Ladislav still clings to his socialist ideals while Xavier has gone on to become a successful business executive. Xavier brings along his associate Zelda, played by Lauren Smith, who appears as a cockroach. This satirical political comedy is directed by Ben Barker with Audra Viele serving as technical director.

In “Duck Variations” by David Mamet, two middle-aged men sit on a park bench discussing the ways of ducks and life, making humorous observations. Aaron Scully plays Emil Vare and Sean Dickmeyer plays George Aronovits. This comedy is directed by Jerod Harms with technical direction by Kirstin Robertson.
