Clara Ann Reed

Clara Ann Reed, 66, of Warrensburg, died Monday, June 18, in Warrensburg.

Funeral services were held 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home, with Pastor Paul Husong officiating.

Interment will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville at a later date.

She was born Oct. 29, 1951, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, the daughter of Roy and Jane (McCullough) Lovitt. On Sept. 5, 1987, she and Eugene Reed were united in marriage in Ticonic, Indianapolis.

Clara spent her early life helping others as a police officer, emergency medical technician and volunteer fire fighter, as well as a wife and mother. She spent much of her life with her children and grandchildren who all called her “Nana.” “Nana” became her name to all children. She loved them all and they loved her back. She has “kids” all over the world.

Together with her husband, they raised seven children; Rusty, Jeremy and Jessica; nephews Alex, Cody and Jake; and one niece, Zoe.

She was deeply involved with scouting programs. She enjoyed working with the boys, guiding and teaching them to become young gentlemen. She participated in the American Legion Auxiliary, contributing her skills as a seamstress to make things for veterans.

She loved motorcycling with her husband, seeing new places and making new friends that were all part of her extended family.

Clara is survived by her husband, Gene, of Warrensburg; a son, Rusty Reed and his family of Indianapolis, Indianapolis; a daughter, Jessica Towne and her son KJ Hale of Warrensburg; a brother, Les Lovitt and his family of Memphis; a grandson, Kevin Reed of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and a granddaughter, Allison Reed of Fairoaks, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Jane Lovitt; a son, Jeremy Reed; and a granddaughter, Clara Jane Reed.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Boy Scout Lone Bear District, Heart of America Council, and can be left in care of the funeral home.
