Delbert Ray Allen

Delbert Ray Allen, 77, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.

Delbert was born Dec. 12, 1937, near Lowry City, Missouri, the son of James Leonard Allen and Gladys Marie (Warner) Allen. He was raised in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School, class of 1957. He soon moved to Kansas City where he was an apprentice tool and die maker with Western Electric. Delbert was united in marriage to Sandra J. Kreisel on July 10, 1960, in Lincoln, Missouri. They made their home in Lee’s Summit for a brief time prior to returning to Kansas City. In 1960, the couple purchased a farm in the Medford Community near Holden. During this time, they ran a dairy business. In 1979, the family moved near Warrensburg. Delbert retired from Western Electric/AT&T in 1992. During his retirement years, he owned and operated Tri-Power Carburetion where he manufactured custom carburetors and manifolds for classic cars and hot rods that were shipped worldwide. He also served with the Army National Guard in Clinton for a number of years. Delbert was a war buff, especially World War II. For nearly 20 years, he assisted his daughter, Dana, with craft shows. “Pops” was never known to miss one of his grandchildren’s games throughout the years. He also was a tinkerer.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra; son, Chad Allen, and partner, Jason Berke, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three daughters, Dana Garten, and husband, Jim, of Holden; Peni Callahan and husband, John, of Warrensburg; and Nicole Allen, of Chicago, Illinois; brother, Charles Allen, of Clinton; four grandchildren, Ashley Garten-Post and husband, Joe; Michael Garten and companion, Ashley West; Kelsey Smith and husband, Clint; and Jacob Callahan and companion, Kylie Schudel; three great-grandchildren, Mira Garten-Rampone, Iris Garten-Post and Indigo Garten-Post; two brothers-in-law, Don Bradley, of Liberty, Missouri; and Dick Kreisel and wife, Leota, of Warsaw, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; brother, Ed Allen; and two sisters, Mildred Bradley and Evelyn Corum.

Funeral services were Sunday, Nov. 29, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg. Interment followed in Bear Creek Cemetery, southeast of Holden. Pallbearers were Delbert’s grandchildren and their spouses.
