(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — It’s BlackBox Theatre time again, when UCM students get to present their creative works to the public.

The University of Central Missouri Department of Theatre & Dance is presenting four one-act plays as part of its Studio Theatre series. The plays are set for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6-8 in the BlackBox Theatre located on the first floor of Nickerson Hall.

The plays are performed, directed and designed entirely by UCM students. The one-acts being presented are “Men’s Intuition” by Itamar Moses, “Waterborn” by Edith L. Freni, “Just Knots” by Christina Gorman, and “The Zero Sum Mind” by Stephen Gregg.

“Men’s Intuition,” directed by Kevin Williams, with technical direction by Kayla Lopez, is a tale of two college roommates who fail to bridge the gap between two different kinds of male intuition. While Wendell is trying to help his jock of a roommate, Eric, with his economics midterm, things take a turn in the wrong direction. This one-act features Steven Covert as Wendell and Joe Burkard as Eric.

“Waterborn,” directed by Alisha Morris, with technical direction by J.Large, is set in and around a large birthing pool. This drama, featuring Tyler Rowe as Mark and Kira Altizer as Leslie, serves up sin and forgiveness.

“Just Knots,” directed by Sharai Bohannon, with technical direction by Joseph Reece, is centered on Dennis and Patty. Dennis works at a mall kiosk selling knots and Patty is a customer who ends up asking Dennis for an unusual favor. Their witty and odd banter is what leads them to start a fast friendship that is quickly put to the test. “Just Knots” features Mason Hunter as Dennis and Suzy Replogle as Patty.

“The Zero Sum Mind,” directed by Bob Wearing, with technical direction by Pancha Brown, deals with a man speaking to no one in particular, another man chasing his enemy with a copy of “Alice in Wonderland,” and a woman washing her son with a brush and polishing wax. The play features Ben Barker as Bub, Ben Whitcomb as Radish, Loran Jett as Hallie, Krystle Cain as Laura, and Jon Orlowski as Martin.

Tickets are $1 and are available at the door. The theater is small and seating is limited, so arriving at least 30 minutes in advance is recommended, according to a news release. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.

Some material may be suitable for mature audiences only, and children under the age of 5 will not be admitted.
