Dorothy Ellen Brockhaus, 80, of Centerview, Mo., formerly of Holden, died Friday, Feb. 28, at Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg.
Dorothy was born May 23, 1933, in Holden, Mo., the daughter of Joseph W. Gudde and Mary Elizabeth Mamie (Bruns) Gudde. She graduated from College High School in Warrensburg in 1951. Shortly after, she went to work as a telephone operator. Dorothy was united in marriage to Raymond Brockhaus on Oct. 18, 1952, in Holden. The couple resided north of Holden for many years where she worked alongside her husband on their dairy farm. She was a cook at Centerview Elementary School and Crest Ridge High School for several years. She was also employed at Ye Olde Flower Shop in Warrensburg at one time. Following the death of her husband, Dorothy moved near Centerview. She was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Holden, and more recently, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warrensburg. She enjoyed embroidery, gardening and tending to her flowers.
Survivors include eight children, Beverly McKenna of Holden; Ron Brockhaus and wife, Joyce, of Holden; Donna Cochran and husband, Clint, of Holden; John Brockhaus and wife, Leesa, of Holden; Jim Brockhaus and wife, Jayne, of Warrensburg; Joe Brockhaus and wife, Susan, of Warrensburg; Steve Brockhaus of Holden; and Shirley Woolery of Chilhowee; two brothers, Richard Gudde and wife, Shirley, of LaMonte, Mo.; and Vernon Gudde and wife, Betty, of Warrensburg; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Gudde of Holden; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
