Dr. Roy Edwin McAuley, 91, of Kansas City, formerly of Warrensburg, died Monday, Oct. 29 at Kingswood Health Center in Kansas City, Mo.
Memorial services for Dr. McAuley will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Warrensburg with the Rev. Randy Crawshaw officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Internment will follow at the Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
He was born May 31, 1921, in Wichita, Kan., the son of Addison Bishop and Thomasita (Martin) McAuley.
He was united in marriage on June 21, 1943 to Ruth Arlene Nicholson in Wichita. She preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2010. Dr. McAuley graduated from McPherson College (BS, 1943), Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago, Ill., (M. Div., 1946), the University of Nebraska (MA, 1948) and the University of Denver (Ed. D, 1953).
Dr. McAuley served pastorates in Omaha, Neb., Akron, Ohio, and was a supply pastor for churches in Missouri and Pennsylvania.
In the academic area, he served as the academic dean, then president of Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania, later becoming the academic vice president of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, retiring in 1988. After retirement, he served as the pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Warrensburg.
Survivors include his children, Dr. Arthur McAuley and wife Victoria of Paxton, Mass., Mark McAuley and wife Virginia of Kansas City, Mo., Anne McAuley of Kansas City, and Ruth Alicia Jones and husband Curtis of Warrensburg; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Alice Bertha Burns of Rosman, North Carolina. In addition to his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Arthur and Max McAuley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Pipe Organ Fund and may be left in care of the Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home.
