Earl Thomas Carter, 77, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Pleasant Hill Health & Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg with the Rev. Hubert Neth officiating. Interment will follow in the Pittsville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Carter, Craig Bowland, Logan Carter, Luke Carter, Chad Bowland, Brian Bowland and Ryley Matthews. Honorary pallbearer will be Gordy Harmon, Gary Larson and Bob Semonisck.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.

Tom was born Aug. 1, 1938, in the Elm Community, the son of Raymond Russell Carter and Elsie Lee (Barnett) Carter. Shortly after graduating from Holden High School, he went to work for his brother Kenneth at Carter Appliance in Warrensburg. Tom was united in marriage to Barbara Vette on Sept. 7, 1957, in Warrensburg. The couple moved to Lee’s Summit where he went to work at Hartley’s Appliance & Furniture.

In 1970, the couple returned to Warrensburg and he bought Carter Appliance from his brother and changed the name to Tom Carter’s TV & Appliance. He sold his business in 1993 and became employed with Marcone Appliance Parts for five years. Later, Tom worked in the maintenance department at Western Missouri Medical Center for a time. More recently, he operated a business called “Service Around The Home,” until retiring in 2003. He was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed woodworking and yard work.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; son, John M. Carter; and two daughters, Kimberly D. Carter and Karen D. Bowland and husband, Craig, all of Warrensburg; brother, Kenneth Carter, of Blue Springs, Missouri; two sisters, Lois Hammons, of Shawnee, Kansas; and Lucille Duncan, of Warrensburg; six grandchildren, Logan Carter, Luke Carter, Lauren Carter, Chad Bowland and Brooke Matthews and husband, Ryley; Brian Bowland and wife, Ashley; and seven great-grandchildren, Audrey Lynn Bowland, Blaine Andrew Bowland, Blake Carroll Bowland, Easton Bryce Matthews, McKenna Grace Roach, Tessa Nicole Roach and Rylee Jolene Carter. He was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers, Russell Eugene Carter and Carl N. Carter.
