Elaine Potter Disosway King, 87, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Friday, May 1, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, at Grover Park Baptist Church with Dr. Randall S. Neal officiating and visitation services beginning at 10 a.m. Pallbearers will be Todd Parker, Craig Bowland, Jim Haller, Jim Whitfield, Jake Oser and Jim Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be John Parsons, Julius Vaughan, George Mitchell, Bill Brame, Linda Potter and C.W. Browning.

Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

She was born June 3, 1927, in Iroquois County, Watseka, Illinois, the daughter of Wilbur C. and Virginia (Potter) Disosway.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Arthur King on Sept. 4, 1949, in Warrensburg.

Elaine graduated from Sheldon, Illinois, High School as valedictorian in the class of 1945. She then attended Stephen’s College in Columbia, Missouri, was on the honor roll and received her associate degree in 1947. Elaine began her career working as a secretary for Pan American Airways in Chicago from 1947 to 1948. She then worked as secretary, auditor and publicity director at the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, from 1948 to 1949. After marrying Tom and starting their family, Elaine worked as secretary and bookkeeper for their businesses starting with Bridge Construction Company from 1952 to 1968. She then worked as secretary and bookkeeper for Johnson County Surveying Company from 1968 to 2001. While working at their surveying business, Elaine also worked as secretary and bookkeeper at Spring Branch Mobile Home Estates from 1974 to 1994. She was a member of Chapter HW P.E.O., Johnson County Historical Society, WMMC Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, the Republican Women’s Club, a member of two bridge clubs and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Tom; two children, Samuel Arthur King, of Warrensburg; Laura Beth King, of Raytown, Missouri; and granddaughter Sierra King Miller and great-grandson Austen Miller, both of Blue Springs, Missouri; one brother, Charles W. Disosway and wife, Anna, of Sheldon, Illinois; niece Jan Zenor and husband, Dennis, of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other nieces and nephews.

 

Memorial contributions are suggested to the HW P.E.O. Scholarship Fund and can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
