Elzie Deardorff

Elzie Ernest Deardorff, 72, of Warrensburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, at his daughter’s home.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the funeral home, with his grandson, Corey Butts Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Finnane, Jim Pyle, Lyle Kreisler, Ted Quirmbach, David Feldman and Tony Kendrick.

He was born May 24, 1944, in Adrian, Missouri, the son of Elzie Burton and Agnes (Gregg) Deardorff.

On March 13, 1963, in Adrian, he and Karma Fay Kendrick were married. She preceded him in death Oct. 30, 2014.

Elzie worked in maintenance for the Warrensburg School District for 32 years before retiring in 2010. He also ran a successful auction business, D&C Auction, in Knob Noster. He loved walking his dog.

He is survived by two daughter, Barbara Ann Simpson and fiancé, Corey Lee Butts, Sr., of Warrensburg, and Tiwona Ogan and husband, Bob, of Olathe, Kansas; a son, Howard Deardorff, of Warrensburg; a brother, Eddie Deardorff and wife, Betty, of Collins, Missouri; two sisters, Elaine Delap and husband, Richard, of Warrensburg, and Opal Anders, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Karma; his parents; a daughter, Patricia Carney; and one sister, Arneta McHee.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Elzie E. Deardorff Memorial Fund, with checks made payable to Barbara Simpson, and can be left in the care of the funeral home.
