Community emergency response team training

There is free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training to learn how to be more prepared in disaster situations including tornadoes, winter storms or flooding.

The CERT Program is a 20 hour course presented by the Johnson County Emergency Management Agency and Johnson County CERT. There are no prerequisites and all residents and county businesses and employees, 16 years and older, are invited to attend. Adults of any age or disability are encouraged to attend.

CERT classes meet two evenings per week for three weeks. The next CERT class begins
Tuesday evening Nov. 7, from 6 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and continues on consecutive Tuesdays and Thursdays at 122 Hout St, Warrensburg.

The final class culminates in a simulated disaster drill on Saturday, Dec.2, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CERT classes teach you disaster preparedness, how to perform light search & rescue after a tornado or earthquake, put out small fires, use medical first aid for life threatening conditions, disaster psychology, team operations, and terrorism awareness.
