Old Drum Open Mic

Old Drum Open Mic is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 5, in the back room of Tranquility Shop, located at 128 N. Holden St. in downtown Warrensburg.

The Old Drum Open Mic series features the presentation of original works, including songs, memoirs, comedy sketches, essays, poems, dances and stories. Presentation slots of up to 15 minutes are available and walk-ins can usually be accommodated.

Sedalia writer Deb Noland is scheduled to recite “Earth Family,” her literary contribution to a global Wreath Sonnet composed by 14 poets from the U.S., the U.K., Wales, India, Australia and New Zealand. Brie Herrick is scheduled to perform four original songs for her debut appearance – “Held in Captivity,” “Ten Feet Tall,” “Sometimes,” and “Prayers of the War.”

UCM scholar and winner of the 2016 David Baker Poetry Award, Julia Landrum, will share some of her original poems. Scott Umphrey has prepared a memoir for presentation titled “Easily Confused.” Short story author Dave Wisker will present part four of “The Prophet on the Wall.” Eddie Osborne will have an essay, and Tony Shaffer will present a couple of original poems.

Henry Yeager and Phil Wagner will reprise their roles as DeadEye Dick and Two Skinny Vinny in a duet, musical performance called “We Didn’t See a Thing,” and Gloria Brown will be singing some of her favorite country songs.
