WMMC and UCM Nutrition and Kinesiology will host the first Sports Medicine Seminar on Wendesday, July 11 in Ward Edwards.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the seminar is 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The cost including lunch is $20 per person. A discount rate of $15 per person is offered for groups of four or more. Advance registration is requested at wmmc.com/sportsMEDseminar.

The seminar will have presentations with local experts from WMMC’s Sports Medicine and Orthopedic team and UCM’s faculty and will include tours of UCM’s kinesiology labs in the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

Many issues will be discussed, such as the value of conducting EKG screenings for student-athletes, to uncover possible heart conditions. Dr. David Glover, a physician in Warrensburg and has served as a doctor for UCM athletic teams, will start the seminar.

Other presenters will focus on female athletes, such as Dr. Dana Brewington, a family and sports medicine specialist in Warrensburg. Glover will do a presentation overheat illness and concussions. There will be a panel discussion with an orthopedic surgeon.

There will be a networking lunch with a motivational speaker, then a tour of UCM’s Human Performance, Bio-mechanics and Athletic Training labs.
