With a passion for math and a heart full of hope, Seals said she decided she wanted to pursue a career in accounting.

“A lot of people told me that it was a lot of work and you shouldn’t do it so that’s kind of why I did it,” Seals said. “I’ve always been good at math, so I knew I wanted to do something along the lines with dealing with math.”

Seals said she doesn’t have much free time, but when she does get a spare moment she enjoys going to the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

“I actually just started doing the rock wall, and that was pretty cool,” she said.

Seals mentioned that she climbed the wall despite being afraid of heights.

“Don’t tell me I can’t because I’m going to try,” Seals said.

She even says that to herself. She would take the climb again despite her fear.

Seals is also overcoming her fears in her social life.

“Last year I was just a freshman,” she said. “I didn’t like getting out or going to any of the events on campus.”

This year she said things are turning around for her, and she is finally starting to enjoy her time on campus.

“I’m actually pledging right now for Delta Sigma Pi, the business fraternity,” Seals said. “I’m just at a point where I’m really just trying to meet new people. That’s one of the reasons why I did join the fraternity.”

Seals said she is a family-oriented person and went home many times last year which was one reason it became difficult to get involved.

“I just felt like I was missing out on a lot,” she said. “I was just really lonely. I felt like I was going to need to get out and be involved anyway. Since I’m in accounting, I’m going to need to talk to people some day.”

Seals is working to branch out now. She wants to earn her master’s degree.

“After I graduate with my master’s degree I want to work at one of the big four accounting firms,” Seals said.

The majority of the world’s auditing services are performed by four accounting firms: Deloitte LLP, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young and KPMG, according to big4accountingfirms.org.

Seals said she has no preference about which of these firms she ends up working for after graduation.

For now, Seals is content with where she is now at UCM.

“I’m pledging, and I’m meeting a lot of new people,” she said. “It really makes me excited for what’s new and talking to people. Right now I’m in a good spot.”
