Fleeta Marie Livengood, 95, died Sept. 7, at Western Missouri Medical Center surrounded by family.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 14, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Basye and Robert Simmons officiating. Interment followed in Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dwight Stephens, David Andrew, Roy Lee White, Tim Evert, Buck Counts and Robert Simmons. Honorary pallbearers were Jim and Jeanne Counts, Gerald Stockton and Minnie Patrick.
Fleeta was born in Johnson County on Jan. 8, 1923, the daughter of Kenneth B. and Ruby (Coats) Burriss. She attended rural grade schools and graduated from Mt. Moriah grade school in May 1935. She graduated from College High School in in May 1939. She was 16 years old. Fleeta attended Central Business College in Sedalia, Missouri. Returning home from college, she went to work for Dr. Wm. R. Patterson, M.D., in June 1941 as the receptionist and worked there five years.
Fleeta Burriss and Wm. J. “Dub” Livengood were married June 23, 1946, at the First Christian Church by the Rev. Herbert D. Woodruff. After marriage, Fleeta went to work at Peoples Bank (now UMB Bank) as a bookkeeper. Later, she went on to work at Citizens Bank (now US Bank) where she worked as a teller, teller supervisor and eventually assistant cashier. Fleeta retired May 1, 1994, from the bank. This completed a career of 30 years of serving the public and creating many friends and lasting friendships.
Fleeta’s husband, Dub, died Feb. 5, 2010. They had celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
She is survived by her three sons, Alan Livengood (Cindy), Terry Livengood (Debbie), both of Warrensburg, and Gary Livengood (Nicola) of Raymore, Missouri. There are 12 grandchildren, Amy, Christopher, and Brad Livengood, Michael Livengood, Jesse Lester, Erica, Vanessa, and Vincent Livengood, Melanie Medina (Sean), and Aspen, Morgan, and MaKenzie Livengood. There are five great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
Fleeta is survived by a sister-in-law, Ann Burriss, of Amarillo, Texas; a niece, Beverly Curtis (Robert); a nephew, Craig Burriss (Donna); and two great-nephews and two great-nieces.
Fleeta was also preceded in death by a brother, Dean C. Burriss, of Amarillo on Feb. 19, 2013.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home and can be left in care of the funeral home.
