Gas line repair slows down popular university intersection

A Spire gas utility foreman welds fittings to a gas line Tuesday afternoon after a report of a gas smell caught the attention of University of Central Missouri authorities.

After a gas leak was reported early Tuesday morning, Spire gas utility workers repaired an old utility gas line.

In a University of Central Missouri news bureau report, motorists and pedestrians were asked to avoid the intersection of Clark and Holden streets near the south entrance of the Elliott Student Union and visitor lot.

Spire workers said the utility line was likely from an older residence that was once on the property, and the age of the line caused the leak.

The Spire foreman said the repair took a few hours to weld a shell around the gas cap.
