Gene D. Thompson

Gene D. Thompson, 87 of La Monte, Missouri, died Monday, Jan. 25, at the Warrensburg Veterans Home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at First Christian Church in Knob Noster with Rev. Larry Ficken officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service, Saturday at the church. Interment will follow in the Knob Noster Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2513 and American Legion Post 131.  Pallbearers will be Travis Snell, Cliff Bayless, Dale McCain, Cody Cantrell, Randall Duffer and Ean Rohde.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Sam Thurston, Lester Lane, Charlie Swearingen, Tom Hughes, Bill Hughes, Larry Ficken, Melvin Ficken, Stanley Bell, David Rohde and Steve Frazon.

Gene was born Jan. 10, 1929, in La Monte, Missouri, the son of Robert H. and Florence (Wampler) Thompson.

On April 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to Emma Jean Duffer in Bentonville, Arkansas. He farmed most of his life.

Gene enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951. Upon his discharge from active duty, he returned home and resumed farming. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Knob Noster for 70 years. He was also a church deacon for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Emma; two sons, Keith Thompson and wife, Pam of La Monte and Terry Thompson and wife, Debbie of Knob Noster; five granddaughters, Heather and Dale McCain, Erin and David Rhocde, Krystal and Travis Snell, Tasha and Cody Cantrell and Lacy and Cliff Bayless; nine great-grandchildren, Ean Rhoede, Ashton Rhoede, Harrison Snell, Allie Ray Snell, Cade Cantrell, Cale Cantrell; Hadley Finley and Lyge Bayless.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Delmar and Earl Thompson.

Memorial contributions are suggested to First Christian Church in Knob Noster or the Warrensburg Veterans Home.
