Genevieve Grace “Burger” Popplewell, 73, of Independence, Missouri, died Sept. 14 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.

Services were scheduled Sept. 18 at the Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral home in Holden, Missouri.

Visitation were held at the funeral home Sept. 18. Interment followed the services at the Garden City Cemetery in Garden City, Missouri.

Genevieve was born Sept. 7 ,1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Ora William and Lizzie Leola “Friend” Whitfill. On Oct. 23, 2010, she married her husband, David Popplewell. She was a nurse all of her adult life, owning her own nursing home in Latour, Missouri. She is a member of the Blue Hill Baptist Church Formally New Salem Baptist church in Independence. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dennis Gordon.

Surviving her passing, husband, David Popplewell of the home; one son, William Peterson of Holden; one sister, Geraldine Carbah, Clinton, Missouri; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
