George Lee Davis

George Lee Davis, 90, of Holden, Missouri, died Thursday, June 7, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Memorial Services will be 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 15 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden with Pastor Joseph Williamson officiating.

Interment will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Higginsville, with full military honors provided by Holden Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post 5844; Munday-Hancock Post 90, American Legion and United States Army Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until service Friday at the funeral home.

George was born Feb. 7, 1928 in Birds, Illinois, the son of Wilford Easter Davis and Mazzila “Ruth” (Fry) Davis.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was an infantry truck driver and in road construction. George was united in marriage to Nina M. Singer on April 12, 1951, in Lawrenceville, Illinois.

The couple moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where George was employed with Cedar Rapids, Inc. as a heavy equipment manufacturer. Next, he worked for Fruehauf Trailers, Inc. The couple later moved to Lone Jack, Missouri. During those years he was employed at Bendix Corporation.

George retired in 1991 after 34 years of service. The family had been Holden residents since 1974. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He was a member of Muzzle Loaders Organization and he made his own ammunition. He also previously served on the Holden City Council as well as the Street Department.

Survivors include three daughters: Georgiana Ruth (Willard) Goodall of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; Barbara Ellen (Brock) Ebbert of Holden, Missouri and Lottie (Floyd) Brim of Kingsville, Missouri; six grandchildren: Rachel Ann Justice of Wichita, Kansas; Gina Lea Davies of Sunrise Beach; Shanina Lea Mims of Alabama; Brandy Kay (Jarret) Nichols of Warrensburg; Richard Gene (Rebecca) Moore of Oak Grove, Missouri, and Angela Renee Pate of Holden, Missouri; and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nina on June 30, 2000, and an infant grandson, Gavin Brock Nichols.
