Helen McMurphy, age 88, of Warrensburg, died Friday, April 6, at Ridge Crest Nursing Center in Warrensburg.
Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Crawshaw officiating. Interment followed in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family received friends from 5 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Helen was born January 17, 1930 in New York City, New York. She came to Missouri in 1937 to live with her Aunt Helen Hollay, and to make her home with Arch and Elise Henderson. Helen graduated from College High School in 1948. She married Byron (Barney) McMurphy and together they operated Old Barneys off the court house square.
Helen retired after working as a people greeter at Walmart for 22 years at the age of 84. Helen enjoyed time with family, bowling, having coffee with her friends at Wendy’s, visiting her Walmart friends, and caring for others. She attended church at the Warrensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Harms of Cole Camp; daughter in law, Sandra McMurphy of Warrensburg; grandson, Byron McMurphy and wife, Julie, of Warrensburg; grandson, Dale Harms and wife, Kristi of Cole Camp; grandson, Mac Harms and wife, Kathy of Cole Camp; and granddaughter, Paula Harms of Phoenix, Arizona; six great grandchildren, Marcus, Hannah, Adisen, Warner, Aidan and Shaun; and one great great grandson, Marshall.
Helen is also survived by her dearest friends, Robert and Karen McDonough of Warrensburg, and their daughters, Christina, Melanie and Shannon.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two Aunts, Helen and Adelaide Hollay; son, Phillip McMurphy; and son in law, Milburn Harms.
Memorial contributions can be made to Room 29:11 at Northside Christian Church or St Jude Children’s Hospital and can be left in care of the funeral home.
