Helen Neal Simon, 90, of Warrensburg, died Sept. 15 at the Warrensburg Manor Care Center.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Sept. 20 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Jerry Basye officiating. Pallbearers will be Lance Neal, Daniel Neal, Tommy Neal, Matt Neal, Jesse Looper, Jason Schneider, Aaron Schneider and Russ Seachrest. Honorary pallbearers include the Leeton class of 1946 and members of the Cheerful Tillers Garden Club.
She owned and operated the Ye Olde Flower Shoppe for 40 years. Helen was a member of the First Christian Church and arranged the church flowers over 40 years. She was a past president of the Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri and active in garden club work since 1953 as a member of the Cheerful Tillers Garden Club. She achieved the honor as oldest member to hold a Masters Certificate as a Flower Show Judge. She was named “Outstanding Young Woman of Warrensburg.”
Born Dec. 9, 1927, in Crookston, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Harvey A. Goucher and Iva Mae Lux Goucher. The family moved to Missouri in 1937. She married Robert T. Neal April 2, 1949, in Leeton, Missouri. Following his death, she married Marion “Ed” Simon Feb. 18, 1984, in Warrensburg.
Mrs. Simon is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Janice Schneider (Phillip) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; two sons, Thomas W. Neal (Rhonda) of Warrensburg and Robert E. Neal (Margaret) of Leeton, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Lyle Goucher of Raymore, Missouri; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Judy Looper and Jeanne Jackson; son-in-law, Ray Looper, all of Warrensburg; her parents, Harvey and Iva Mae Goucher, Leeton; husband, Robert T. Neal; second husband, Marion “Ed” Simon, both of Warrensburg; two brothers, Henry Goucher of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Wayne Goucher of Windsor, Missouri; two sisters, Wanda Goucher, Windsor and Barbara Champion of Marshall, Missouri.
Services under the direction of Sweeney-Phillip& Holdren Funeral Home. Burial will be at Centerview Cemetery.
